The Center for MicroBioRobotics@SSSA of the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) http://mbr.iit.it, directed by Dr. Barbara Mazzolai, aims at developing innovative methodologies and robotic technologies, new materials, and advanced components, both for the design and construction of high performance bio-inspired machines and systems at the micro scale, and for the development of devices for biomedical, environmental, and rescue applications.

The ideal candidate has expertise in one or more of the following areas: organic chemistry, electrochemistry, biochemistry, and/or analytical chemistry. Previous experiences about reaction mechanisms and kinetics are also beneficial.
He/she will work in a microengineering context in close collaboration with engineers/physicians/biologists for the development of new sensors, actuators and microrobots. In particular, for these new devices some specific developments will be: ionic solutions for osmotic type of actuation; soft, self-propelling structures and oscillating hydrogels; mono- and multi-layer bio-inspired membranes.
The successful applicant has free spirit, strong capacity to generate novel ideas at the borderline of science and technology, and wishes to work in team and cooperate over various disciplines. Proficiency in writing/spoken English is mandatory.
The position is available from May, 2011 for 12 months with a contract renewable on the basis of performance. Salary and benefits are highly competitive for international standards. PhD student positions

PhD student positions are administered through the Aarhus Graduate School of Science and include full tuition waiver and a very competitive scholarship. MADALGO Postdoc positions at the level of Research Assistant

Professor of Computer Science are initially for one year, but they can be extended by mutual consent. MADALGO welcomes Postdoctoral researchers with clearly demonstrated experience and skills in the design and analysis of algorithms and data structures. Researchers with experience with I/O-efficient, cache-oblivious or streaming algorithms, as well as with implementation of such algorithms (algorithm engineering experience), are preferred. The responsibilities of MADALGO Postdocs include work on algorithms for massive dataset problems in collaboration with center researchers, along with modest teaching responsibilities.

Interdisciplinary Geospatial Informatics Postdoc position

An Interdisciplinary Postdoc position is available. The position is initially for one year, but can be extended by mutual consent. The responsibilities of the Postdoc will include work on geospatial problems on the boundary between computer science and biology, more specifically between algorithms and ecology/biodiversity. The Postdoc should focus on problems in relation to computationally efficient use of modern detailed (and thus massive) topographic data in various global-change-relevant modeling applications. Modest teaching responsibilities may also be required. The Postdoc will be affiliated with MADALGO under the supervision of computer science Professor Lars Arge, but will also with researchers in the Ecoinfomatics & Biodiversity group at the Department of Biological Sciences under the supervision of Professor Jens-Christian Svenning. Applications are welcomed from computer science researchers with clearly demonstrated skills in the design, analysis and implementation of algorithms (preferably also with I/O-efficient algorithms), as well as from geoinformatics researchers with clearly demonstrated skills in GIS and programming. Two PhD fellowships in Denmark

Department of Agriculture and Ecology, Faculty of Life Sciences at University of Copenhagen is offering two PhD scholarships commencing 1 May 2011 or soon thereafter. The application deadline is 1 March 2011.

Background

Powdery mildew fungi attack numerous plant species and cause serious losses on several crops. These fungi are obligate biotrophs, for which it is imperative to have a "haustorial" structure inside the living host cell for nutrient uptake. Defences are manifested at two stages: 1) during penetration of the epidermal cell wall when a protective cell wall apposition is formed, and 2) during the subsequent haustorial stage when the attacked epidermal cell can undergo a programmed cell death reaction. To counteract these defences, the fungus secretes hundreds of effector proteins that enter the host cell and interact with defence components.

Project descriptions

Two multidisciplinary PhD projects have been designed in order to obtain detailed understanding of the function of effectors form the barley powdery mildew fungus, from which the genome has been sequenced recently.

Project 1. Effectors that inhibit defences against penetration. We will screen for these in a relevant fungal cDNA library that will be available for this purpose.

Project 2. Effectors that inhibit programmed death of the infected cell. These will be searched for in on a one-by-one screening of our collection of YxC effector candidates.

In the searches for the effectors and in the subsequent detailed analysis of them, we will make use of transient transformation of barley single cells to see how over-expression and gene silencing influence the defence responses and how the powdery mildew fungus performs. Protein targets in barley will be searched for by yeast 2-hybrid screening of a barley library, and effector-target protein-protein interactions will be confirmed in pull-down experiments.

The research will be coordinated with international collaborators.

Talented and motivated candidates who have, or are expecting to obtain a Master or equivalent degree in a field relevant to the research undertaken within the GMPF programme, are invited to submit their application on-line.

The on-line application is open from 20 January to 18 February (12 pm central European time)

Short listed candidates will be invited for an interview on 13-15 April

Candidates can postulate for one to three specific projects chosen among the 32 proposed ones. For this call, Fellowships are available to support 12 PhD students for 3 to 4 years. Each project is developed as collaboration between researchers at the Fondazione Edmund Mach (FEM) and one or more GMPF partner institutions.

The official working language is English.

About the Fellowships

Fellowships include a salary of 20.000 Euro per year (before taxes), which is provided for 3 years with the possibility to extend it for 1 more year, pending the approval of the Tutor Committee. Students will also benefit of bench fees and reimbursement for travelling to the other partner institutions.

Note that the GMPF PhD programme does not handle requests for registration as PhD student. FEM is a research Foundation and cannot issue the PhD degree. Therefore successful candidates will have to register as PhD students with the University partner of the project or with another University.

Fellow students will have 1 year from when the fellowships starts to register as PhD students. If at the end of the first year the selected candidate is not yet registered as PhD student, the fellowship will stop.

The PhD curricula are carried out according to the rules of the University where the candidate is enrolled. In addition to the official graduate certificate issued by the University, the GMPF PhD Programme issues a specific certificate.

The applicants must hold a Master's degree or equivalent from a university in the field of Life Sciences or Bioinformatics. It is also possible to apply when the Master's degree will be obtained after the application deadline. The fellowship can start as early as 1 June 2011 but no later than 1 November 2011, depending on the project.

The Erasmus Mundus Master Course in Coastal and Marine Engineering and Management, is a two-year English taught international Master’s programme, in which five high-rated European universities participate. During the course students familiarise themselves with key issues involved in providing sustainable, environmentally friendly, legally and economically acceptable solutions to various problems in the CoMEM field.

Programme

During the programme, students study at universities in three different countries. Students spend the first semester in Trondheim, Norway, the second semester in Delft, the Netherlands; during the third semester in the second year, students choose a specialization, either in Barcelona (Spain), London (UK) or Southampton (UK). Semester 4 is devoted to doing the MSc thesis at one of the three universities previously visited.

All participating universities have long-standing relations with the industry, public works administrations and research and education institutes. Studying in different European countries will enable students to meet and work with professionals from various backgrounds and to gather knowledge on a wide range of issues involved; they will also get a comprehensive EU perspective on CoMEM related issues. This will help students to develop a coherent and integrated approach that is applicable to a more global perspective as well.

Incoming post-doctoral fellowships of the Académie universitaire Louvain (AUL) are offered to scientists from all nationalities in order to strengthen the bilateral S&T collaborations as well as the realisation of the European Research Area.

Description

1. Aim of the action

The stimulation of international mobility and the attraction of researchers from abroad is one of the priorities of the European Research Area.

The Académie universitaire Louvain (AUL) is contributing to this objective by granting post-doc fellowships to highly qualified foreign scientists inviting them to work in a Belgian research team during a certain period of time. The ultimate aim is to establish S&T collaborations and lasting networks between the respective research teams.

2. Eligible scientists

The AUL Incoming post-doc Fellowships are addressed to :

- experienced researchers, holding a doctor's degree or have a similar research experience *;

- researchers with more than 10 years of research experience will not be eligible;

- not having spent more than 24 month, out of the last 3 years in Belgium

* Experienced researchers are defined as researchers having at least 4 years of research experience (full-time equivalent) since gaining a university diploma giving them access to doctoral studies (the degree must entitle the holder to embark on doctoral studies, without having to acquire any further qualifications), in the country in which the degree/diploma was obtained or researchers already in possession of a doctoral degree, independently of the time taken to acquire it.

Origins of Proterozoic-Cambrian photosynthetic microbiota

Unicellular, organic-walled photosynthetic microbiota (prokaryotes and eukaryotes) diversified at an increasing rate through the Proterozoic and in the Cambrian explosion. Their phylogenetic relationships are still poorly understood because their morphology is not always sufficient to infer their systematic position. Studies of phenotypical features, combined with cell wall ultrastructure, biogeochemistry and biomarkers may help to unravel their biological affinities. More precise placement within a geologic time frame will allow the cause-effect relationships between evolving photosynthesing (primary producers) and forthcoming heterotrophic biota (consumers) versus global environmental change to be better understood.

The PhD student will collaborate with researchers at Uppsala and in foreign universities working with the palaeobiology, systematics, ultrastructure and biogeochemistry of cell wall, and the evolution of organic-walled microbiota. The aim of the project is to elucidate the biological affiliations and relationships to extant microbiota of selected microfossils (acritarchs), with emphasis on their life cycle, reproduction and environmental adaptations. The study will be based on analyses of phenotypical features and the cell wall ultrastructure, biogeochemistry and biomarkers by new microscopic, spectroscopic and tomographic techniques. This interdisciplinary approach between Palaeobiology, Earth Sciences and Astrobiology encourages a strongly motivated candidate to develop collaboration with scientists from different disciplines and across the fields of studies.

The applicant should have a university degree with a background in micropalaeontology, palynology, biology and/or geology, and a keen interest in palaeobiology, evolution and biogeochemistry. Applicants with skills in microscopy, laboratory techniques and image analyses are especially welcomed. The abilities to work in a team, to share experiences and knowledge, and be open to the application of new methods of research are essential. Because of a strong international character of the research, applicant is expected to have a good knowledge (spoken and written) of the English language. Acquisition of a (basic) knowledge of Swedish is strongly recommended to facilitate departmental communication and activity, but this is not a requirement for recruitment.

The holder of a PhD-student position shall primarily devote her/his time to own research and study. Other departmental work, such as educational or administrative duties can be part of the position up to 20% of a fulltime work.

The Ph.D. position is for four years where financing for the first year will be a postgraduate study grant (Utbildningsbidrag) and during the following three years as an employee of the university as a Ph.D student.

We are looking for a PhD student to undertake a spatial modeling of ecosystem services supply in the context of land use change with a case study in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia. The project will combine environmental, spatial and economic analysis to further our understanding of the benefits provided by nature to society. The project will zoom in on the impacts of rapid land use change and the possibilities for basing land use planning on ecological-economic models. The project will be undertaken in close collaboration with a number of Indonesian partners, and the PhD student is expected to carry out several months of fieldwork in Kalimantan, Indonesia

Requirements

We require excellent analytical skills, preferably demonstrated by previous experience with quantitative analysis and modeling. A background in environmental sciences, environmental economics or landscape ecology would fit best to the offered position. Experience with GIS, the analysis or modeling of ecosystem services, or the economic valuation of environmental resources would be an advantage. Finally, good writing skills and the motivation to carry out a PhD study are required. Proficiency in, or a willingness to learn basic Indonesian in order to communicate with stakeholders would be appreciated.

Conditions of employment

We offer a full time employment at Wageningen University as PhD student, starting with 18 months. If your suitability in this position is apparent, the period of employment will be extended by the remaining 30 months. The Government of India offers, every year, 20 scholarship slots to meritorious students from Indonesia to pursue their higher studies in Indian universities and colleges. The scholarships are granted for studies at Undergraduate & Post-graduate levels and in research subjects under M.Phil. and Ph.D.

The scholarships are administered by the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) under its General Cultural Scholarships Scheme (GCSS). Applications for scholarships under this scheme are invited in the month of November- December every year. These scholarships are also available for nationals of Timor Leste.

Applications need to be submitted to the Embassy of India in Jakarta only and not direct to ICCR or the concerned University.

Under the Scheme, Living Allowance, Contingent Grant, accommodation charges, Tuition Fee and other benefits, including medical and study tour to the students selected for scholarships are provided. However, the cost of air passage to India and back is not covered.

Industry sponsored PhD scholarships for scientists and engineers in Chemical Engineering

A stipend of between $25,000 and $32,500 pa AUD for three years (tax free) is available for 2 PhD students for projects concerning processing, colloidal/microstructural properties and rheology on the gelling and yielding properties of dairy proteins.

Many soft foods are highly complex yielding and gelling soft matter systems that are structured at the nano and micro-scale in the form of either a soft glass or gel. The colloidal nature of this structure strongly influences their physical and sensory properties, including rheology, but the exact relationship between these properties remains elusive. This lack of fundamental insight, combined with the inability to precisely control the structure and rheology during processing, is actually inhibiting food manufacturer's efforts to create next generation foods that have substantial health benefits whilst delivering a positive consumer experience. We focus on discovering the processing-structure-rheology relationships relevant to dairy proteins.

Project 1 aims to develop and validate rheological-based approaches and scaling rules to elucidate the influence of processing conditions on the rheology and microstructure of gelling proteins during processing. Depending on the candidate's capabilities and interests, this may also involve utilization of advanced modeling approaches.

Project 2 aims to determine novel relationships between rheological properties of protein gels with their colloidal properties as well as the nature of their self-assembled nano/microstructures. It is anticipated that such properties will strongly influence the quality of the final product including their behavior during oral processing as well as their sensorial properties.

The projects will be performed in collaboration with an overseas industry partner.

The role: These projects require excellent engineers or scientists with an interest in performing and applying fundamental engineering and/or scientific approaches in order to obtain an advanced, and as yet unrealized, understanding of industrial processes and products. While the key application area is towards dairy proteins, the skills and capabilities to be developed by the candidates in the fields of soft matter and rheology will be advantageous for a wide variety of industrial and academic areas. The candidates will be part of a multidisciplinary dynamic research group.

The person: Graduates with honors or masters from Chemical Engineering, Chemical and Biological Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Food Engineering, Food science, Chemistry, and Physics with good experimental skills are encouraged to apply. Academically strong practicing engineers and scientists are also encouraged to apply.

Remuneration: Scholarships are available for outstanding PhD candidates. This will enable an excellent student to receive a full-time living allowance of $25,000 - $32,500 per annum for three years, with the possibility of a six month extension in approved circumstances. 1. T5.3 Feedback analysis and evaluation using the CLIMBER model
An Early-Stage Researcher (PhD candidate), to investigate feedbacks between

model will be used to evaluate biosphere-climate interactions at global and

I. LATAR BELAKANG

ATURAN TAMBAHAN:

European Master Scholarships in Nuclear Fusion Science and Engineering Physics,
Erasmus Mundus
The aim of the European Master in Nuclear Fusion Science and Engineering Physics
(FUSION-EP) programme is to provide a high-level, multinational,
research-oriented education in fusion-related engineering physics, in close
relation to the research activities of the partners, together with a
well-integrated language and cultural experience. The combined and harmonized
teaching & research of the 7 universities offers a broad range of competences in
the field of fusion science and engineering physics. The Joint European Masters
Programme offers a genuine European opportunity for Master level studies in a
field which is of crucial importance to solving the urgent and vital problem of
world energy supply.

In view of the expertise of the partners, the programme offers three programme
tracks to the student: Plasma physics (fusion-oriented); Computational methods
in physics; and Instrumentation and Radiation. The programme structure is
combined with a mandatory stay for each student at two universities in two
countries: semesters 1&2 at University A; and semesters 3 & 4 in B. Semesters 3
& 4 are in a particular track.
During semester 4 students will also attend a one month long winter school at
the ITER site (attendance is compulsory). After semesters 2 & 4 a summer event
is organized (attendance is compulsory) in which tracks and Master thesis topics
are proposed for Master 1 students Master 2 students defend their thesis at this
event. Student mobility is an inherent part of the programme structure and
philosophy.

The joint or multiple degrees are recognised in Belgium, France, Spain and

Admission criteria:
Bachelor degree in engineering physics, applied physics, physics or equivalent
degree. Sufficient bachelor level knowledge in classical and modern physics is
mandatory together with the necessary mathematical and computer programming
skills. No difference is made between third-country students, EU students,
grantees and non-grantees. Applicants (students and scholars) from third
countries (whether or not applying for a grant) will be subject to a
well-defined selection procedure aimed at achieving high quality.
Erasmus Mundus Scholarship
Per academic year Erasmus Mundus scholarships are available for FUSION-EP
students from third countries are available. Nationals coming from all countries
other than the 25 EU Member States (Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Spain,
Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal,
the UK, Sweden, Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland,
Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia), the EEA-EFTA states (Island, Liechtenstein
and Norway) and the candidate countries for accession to the EU (presently
Croatia and Turkey), who are not residents of any of the above countries, and
who have not carried out their main activities (studies, work, etc.) for more
than a total of 12 months over the last five years in any of the above countries
are considered “third-country nationals”.
no more than 4 of the selected third-country students should come from the same
country.

The Erasmus Mundus scholarship consist of twenty monthly instalments of 1600

Erasmus Mundus Masters Course ( 120 ECTS) in Astronomy and Astrophysics

AstroMundus is a 2-years Erasmus Mundus Masters Course ( 120 ECTS) in Astronomy and Astrophysics offered by a consortium of 5 partner universities in 4 different countries: Austria, Italy, Germany, and Serbia.
Its main objective is to provide top-ranked students with an excellent background in Astrophysics, to introduce them to the world of modern astrophysical research, and foster their future career in this field. At the same time, in the spirit of the Erasmus Mundus programmes, we promote cultural exchanges between Third Country and European students and academics.

AstroMundus students carry out their master studies in at least 2 and up to four of these countries, in a stimulating and scientifically excellent international environment.

The official language of the course is English, but students are given the possibility to learn the languages of the host countries by attending language courses at the partner universities.

Successful students will be awarded a Joint Master Degree by all partner universities they have visited during the Master studies.
In addition they will obtain a Diploma Supplement to facilitate the recognition of their degree in other universities/countries.
At the end of each 2-years cycle of the Master Programme the best master thesis of the cycle will be awarded a prize.

Selection of Students

We aim at enrolling top-ranked students, therefore the selection of students will be primarily based on excellence. In particular during the selection process the following points will be carefully considered by the nominated Selection Committee:
- full academic background incorporating the list of courses followed
- testified examination marks/obtained grades
- language skills
- individual content in the letter of motivation
- relevant (astronomy/astrophysics related) extracurricular activities
- content of the reference letters

In order to apply, students must submit in electronic form all documents listed below. These documents should be combined together with a signed copy of the application form in a single pdf file before upload to this web-site.
List of required documents

Eligible applicants must provide in electronic form the following documents in English language. For all documents whose originals are not in English language, we require a certified English translation. Scanned copies of the documents are accepted. In order to be admitted, selected students will be requested to present the originals (or certified copies) of all documents they have transmitted electronically at application time and any additional document required by the admission department of the University of Innsbruck according to the general Guidelines for International Students (with the exception of the proof of knowledge of German language, which is replaced by knowledge of English language for Erasmus Mundus students).

* Completed and signed Application Form in all its parts including the list of all attended courses with credits and brief summary of the course contents, and a letter of motivation (max 1 page). Please, do not delete any part of the Application Form!
* Bachelor's Degree in either Astronomy, Astrophysics, Physics, or Mathematics or recognized equivalent level of learning in the same field, quantified as 3 years of studies corresponding to 180 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System).
Since the first course will start in Sept. 2010, we request that the students either hold already their Bachelor or they expect to obtain it latest by August 2010. In the latter case students should provide a certification stating the expected date for the Bachelor's degree and the list of courses that are still in progress. The Bachelor's certificate and the grades obtained in the courses currently in progress must be uploaded to this site as soon as they are available.
Important note for Chinese students: Chinese students need to obtain a certification through the "Akademische Prüfstelle" in Peking. The relevant information is available at the APS web site.
* Electronic copies of academic records.

* Proof of proficiency in English language. Accepted tests and scores are the following:
1. Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English;
2. Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English;
3. "International English Language Testing System" (IELTS), minimum "Band 6";
4. Paper-based "Test of English as a Foreign Language" (TOEFL) with minimum score 550 points;
5. Computer-based TOEFL with minimum score 220 points;
6. Internet-based TOEFL with minimum score 83 points;
7. UNIcert level "III";
8. C1 according to the Common European Framework (CEF).

Native English speakers are exempted from providing such a proof. Transcript of TOEFL / IELTS scores or equivalent should have been obtained not more than 2 years before application time. For application purposes students can submit scanned copies of their transcripts. Students that have been selected for admission must ask ETS for sending the TOEFL transcripts directly to the AstroMundus coordinating institution (University of Innsbruck).

* An up-to-date curriculum vitae (resumé) including a brief summary of the Bachelor's thesis, a description of relevant extracurricular activities that are related to Astronomy/Astrophysics and skills acquired (e.g. computer/programming skills), and the list of publications (if any).
* Two letters of recommendation to be sent electronically by the referees by addressing the questions provided in the online referee form.
* Scanned copy of a valid passport.

Pre-selected candidates might be interviewed by video-conference (or teleconference if not otherwiese possible).

Selection of Third Country and European Scholars

A number of scholarships will be offered to Third Country academics and European academics (the latter only if they are members of one of the consortium partner universities) who wish to carry out short periods (at least two weeks and up to three months) of teaching and/or research activities in the framework of the AstroMundus EMMC programme. Third Country academics are eligible to carry out their activities at the four European Universities that are member of the consortium, while European academics, provided they come from one of the consortium universities, are eligible to carry out their activities at the University of Belgrade, the Third Country member of the consortium.
Top-level academics will be selected by the nominated Selection Committee based on excellence and on consortium needs according to the specific topic of expertise.
The official language of the AstroMundus Masters Course is English.
Applications in electronic form are invited with deadline November 30th 2010 for both non-European and European academics.
As a minimum requirement for eligibility, applicants should hold a PhD in either Astronomy, Astrophysics, or Physics or an equivalent amount of research experience and have a long-standing experience of teaching at graduate level.
Together with the completed Application Form, applicants should submit the following documents in English language:

* a record of the teaching experience at graduate level

Eligibility: Students

The "Astrophysics" Erasmus Mundus Masters Course is open to students of all nationalities that fulfill these minimum requirements:

* Hold a Bachelor degree in Physics, Astronomy, Astrophysics, or Mathematics (or a certified equivalent amount of learning in the same field, quantified as 3 years of previous studies corresponding to at least 180 credits in the European Credit Transfer System) or expect to obtain it latest by August of the starting year of the Masters Course (i.e. by August 2010 for the course starting in September 2010);
* Have a good and certified knowledge of the English language (the certification is not necessary for native speakers).

All students that come from a country of the European Union or an EEA-EFTA State (Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein) or students that either are residents or have carried out their main activity (study, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last 5 years in one of these countries can apply in the category "European students".
All other students, including students coming from Switzerland, Turkey, and Western Balkan Countries (Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo under UNSC Resolution 1244-99, and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia) can apply in the category "Third Country students".

Eligibility: Academics

The "Astrophysics" Erasmus Mundus Masters Course invites Third Country academics of all nationalities to apply for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship to carry out activities of teaching and/or research at one of our four European consortium universities in the framework of the Masters Course for short periods that range from a minimum of 2 weeks to a maximum of 3 months.

European academics are eligible for Erasmus Mundus scholarships only if they are members of one of the four European consortium universities and wish to spend a period at the University of Belgrade (our Third Country partner).

Merit Scholarship Programme for High Technology (MSP)

1. Introduction
The Programme was launched in 1413H (1992), named â€˜The IDB Merit Scholarship
Programme for High Technology' (MSP).

2. Objective and Scope
The objective of the programme is to develop technically qualified human
resources in the IDB member countries by providing scholarships to promising and
outstanding scholars and researchers to undertake advanced studies and research
in the fields of applied science and technology needed for the development of
the member countries.
The Programme offers scholarships for study and research at two levels: (i)
3-year Ph.D. study/ research, and (ii) 6-12 months of Post-Doctoral research.

3. Concept
The concept is to assist the needs of the IDB member countries and their
institutions in developing high quality and hi-tech human resources in science
and technology areas that they are lacking but crucial for their development.

4. Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the scholarship, the applicant must meet the following basic
criteria:
* Age not over (a) 35 years for Ph.D. study, and (b) 40 years for Post-Doctoral
research;
* Attached to a research/academic/development institution in science and
technology in their respective country;
* Must possess the required academic background in the related field of their
proposed study/research and have some professional/research experience in the
respective field;
* Demonstrate that the research proposal
has scientific and technological relevance with the objective of meeting the
priority development needs of the country;
* Have good command of the language of the institution of study and the ability
to conduct scientific work in it.

5. Fields of Study
Fields of studies under the programme are determined by the priority needs of
the countryâ€™s development in science and technology sectors and to supplement
the IDB vision 1440H.Â Current focus is thus on the following fields of
studies:
Health/medicine, Agriculture/Food production, Water Resources/ Desertification,
Energy/Infrastructure Development, Nanotechnology, Development-focused ICT, and
pure Science subjects.

6. Place of Study
The selected candidates are to pursue their research and study at the top most
reputable academic and research institutions worldwide.

9. How to apply

the Office of the IDB Governor that will forward the applications to the IDB
and not the individual applicants or the nominating institutions.Â Applications
sent directly to the IDB will not be considered.

10. Selection procedure
All the applications submitted to the IDB Governor's Office are to go through
the following process:
1. Screening by the IDB Governor's Office to forward to IDB the most eligible
applications;
2. In-house review at the IDB;
3. Scientific and technical evaluation of eligible applications by a panel of
external reviewers composed of scientists and experts in their fields.
4. Final selection by the IDB.

11. Obligations of the Partners
1. Candidates
Candidates awarded the scholarship must:
1. Sign the Surety Bond stating their commitments to studies, to return to
their countries upon completion and resume work in their home institutions;
2. Devote themselves to their studies on a full-time continuous basis and
provide the IDB with periodic reports on their academic
3. Not seek or accept other scholarship or remunerated work during their
studies, unless agreed to in writing by the IDB;
4. Respect the laws of the country of study while maintaining good personal and
professional conducts consistent with the objectives, rules & regulations of the
programme and the overall mission of the IDB as an Islamic institution.
5. To register with the Science Development Network (SDN) for continuous
scientific/professional activities under the patronage of IDB.

2. Nominating Institutions
As a partner in the joint effort with the IDB, the institutions nominating
candidates are expected to:
1. Nominate suitable candidates, assist them in all aspects of the
documentation preparation and in securing the necessary endorsement from the
Office of the IDB Governor for the country.
2. Assist the selected scholars in preparation of their departure for study and
place them on study-leave maintaining their pay-roll status.
3. Help resettle them and support them in their research and equipment needs,
on their return to the institution.

3. Offices of the IDB Governors
As the channel of announcement and initial processing of the applications, the
Offices of the IDB Governors are expected to:
1. Announce the Programme as widely as possible among the scientific and
research communities in the country;
2. Disseminate information and application forms to all relevant scientific and
research institutions and interested scholars in the country;
3. Screen and pre-process applications to ensure eligibility and completion of
documentation against requirements;
4. Pre-select and submit to the IDB only those who are most qualified and in
the proposed fields of study that are most needed for the development of the
country.

12. Community Development Support
To help scholars prepare themselves for their future leading role in the
socio-economic and technological development of their societies and countries,
the IDB also provides them with extra-curricular activities under a special
programme called Community Development Programme (CDP) comprising the following
two components:
* Post Study Activities (PSA): Since the graduates are the keys to the delivery
of IDB objectives of socio-economic and technological development of their
societies and countries, IDB supports them with a range of activities including
formation of IDB Graduatesâ€™ Associations and monitoring their contribution to
their society, institution and country. The Scholars are facilitated to enlist
their names as consultants/experts for various capacity building and knowledge
transfer programmes in IDB member countries under the IDB Technical Cooperation
Programme (TCP).

* Capacity Building Activities (CBA): The graduates are eligible to participate
in regional Community Development Workshops that are held in different countries
as part of the Capacity Building Activities for partners of the IDB Special
Assistance and Scholarship Programmes.

13. Â Programme Management
The day-to-day implementation of the Programme is undertaken by the IDB
Scholarship Division under the guidance and supervision of the IDB Management.

Preference will be given to applicants who serve as faculty members of state and private institutions of higher education in Indonesia. Applicants will possess:

AISC - Taiwan 2011 is the second annual Indonesian scholars conference in Taiwan organized by Indonesian Committee for Science and Technology Transfer in Taiwan [IC3T]. The conference aims to present technological advances and research results in the multi-discipline areas in an international forum for Indonesian scholars. Accepted papers will be published in the Proceeding of AISC-Taiwan 2011 (ISSN : 2086-5953). Acceptance will be based on the quality, relevance and originality.

The Kellogg and Kroc Institutes announce a Research Grants Program for undergraduate students at Notre Dame during the summer. The grants are intended for juniors whose interests include a clear international dimension preferably related to the Kellogg Institute’s themes. Several grants of up to $5,000* each will be awarded for research abroad or, if demonstrably appropriate, in the United States. We seek a post-doctoral research fellow in biogeochemical cycles modeling, topics include the dynamic interactions of climate change on carbon and water balance and productivity in semi-dry regions, or modeling biogenic trace gas emissions. The work contributes to the EU Projects ClimAfrica and PEGASOS, as well as other ongoing projects. The work is carried out at the division of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Analysis at the Department of Earth and Ecosytem Sciences, Lund University, Sweden. The researcher will be responsible for adapting and applying the dynamic global vegetation model framework LPJ-GUESS and to evaluate model output against a range of observations.

Qualifications

* Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) in a quantitative environmental sciences discipline, for instance meteorology, Environmental physics, or Environmental biology. Applications from candidates who are close to completion of their PhD degree will also be considered

* Expertise with process-based mathematical modelling of environmental processes and skills in handling large, gridded input (e.g., different land use or climate input) and output fields

Aerospace Engineering

The Faculty of Aerospace Engineering has a current enrolment of approximately 1,700 students, making it one of the largest faculties of TU Delft. The faculty is one of the highest-ranked internationally and is unique in Europe. Although the faculty's primary focus is on the development of aerospace systems, the application of such systems plays an equally important role. Research explores subjects ranging from earth observation to wind power and other sustainable energy technology. The working atmosphere at the faculty is friendly, open-minded and dedicated.

Job description

A regional interpretation of recent Greenland mass loss, Understanding Greenland Ice Sheet (GrIS) Mass Balance, is critical for quantifying how global climate change will affect global sea levels, a very relevant topic for countries like the Netherlands. The Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) directly observes GrIS mass changes. GrIS mass loss rates can also be determined using the mass budget method, which quantifies the individual components of ice sheet mass balance (surface mass balance SMB and ice discharge D). The SMB requires meteorological model data over the GrIS, while several techniques such as SAR interferometry or in situ GPS can be used to map glacier flow, which is directly related to the ice discharge D. Our proposal is to improve the assessment of regional instead of ice-sheet integrated mass loss by comparing GRACE data and the mass budget method in 16 well-defined basins, whereby expertise from DEOS at the Delft University of Technology and the IMAU institute at the Utrecht University will be combined.
Requirements

Applicants are expected to have a university degree (MSc) in physics, astrophysics, applied mathematics, earth and planetary sciences, geodesy, or closely related areas, with a strong background in numerical modelling. Applicants must also be proficient in spoken and written English.

The Department of Design and Construction of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences deals with a wide array of subjects, such as sustainable building, road and railway construction, structural mechanics, construction processes and civil engineering structures. In both research and education, innovation plays an important part. The department’s work has a strong innovation, solution and application-based focus.
Job description

This PhD project is part of a larger IS2C research project consisting of two PhDs. In view of monitoring infrastructural assets, the emphasis of this project is on receiving information about the actual performance of a structure in relation to its actual condition. In this position, the PhD candidate has the primary task of developing an efficient monitoring system to measure the actual condition of infrastructural assets that can be used as a basis for decision making systems for maintenance management. The structural and material behaviour, and its mutual interactions, form the basis for the sensor network that should enable the assessment of a structure’s actual state of degradation. The material performance sensors provide information about the chloride concentration, moisture content, carbonation, etc., whereas the structural sensors measure vibrations, accelerations, displacements, etc. The layout and density of the sensor grid should be examined in order to determine a reliable response of the actual structural condition. The data received from the sensors will be collected and processed in another PhD project. Both researchers should work together intensively in order to benefit from the synergy between their projects.
Requirements

The candidate for this position should have a Master degree in civil engineering with a specialisation in materials technology. Of particular interest are candidates with knowledge in the field of cement chemistry, thermodynamics, and/or numerical modelling. The candidate will work on an inspiring team of researchers with international qualifications. The primary workplace will be the Microlab at Delft University of Technology.

General information

Eleven (11) scholarships are available for PhD research in the fields covered by the strategic research areas of our Centre: Environment and Natural Resources Area , Food Quality and Nutrition Area, Genomics and Crop Biology Area. Applicants will be assessed on the basis of their curriculum and of the letters of reference. Letters sent by the applicants will not be considered (see below the form for the reference letter).

The grant is for three years and the expected start is February 2011 (Spring 2011 at the latest). The gross salary is 20.000 Euros per year. Students will also benefit of funding for travelling to our projects’ partner institutions as the projects include a minimum period of 6-months-stay at the institution co-responsible for the single PhD project.

Intelligent Energy Management System for a Virtual Power Plant

Job description
The PhD position is part of the Intelligent Energy Management System for a Virtual Power Plant project, co-funded by Højteknologifonden, Vestas Wind Systems A/S and Aalborg University aiming at integrating energy storage systems into wind power plants.

Future large wind power plants (WPP) will be intended to function like conventional power plants seen from the transmission system by complying with the grid codes and providing ancillary services. Embedding energy storage to form a so-called Virtual Power Plant may offer such services.

The purpose of this project is to develop intelligent energy management system for Virtual Power Plant in order to improve production forecast, reduce fluctuations of output power over time (dp/dt), offer the balancing responsible a primary reserve, improve inertia response, enable black starting and finally demonstrate that an optimal designed energy management system with minimised energy storage integrated into a wind power plant results in a financially attractive concept.

PhD stipends are allocated to individuals who hold a Masters degree. PhD stipends are normally for a period of 3 years. It is a prerequisite for allocation of the stipend that the candidate will be enrolled as a PhD student at the Doctoral School of the Faculty of Engineering and Science, in accordance with the regulations of Ministerial Order No. 18 of January 14, 2008 on the PhD Programme at the Universities. According to the Ministerial Order, the progress of the PhD student shall be assessed every six months. It is a prerequisite for continuation of salary payment that the previous progress is approved at the time of the evaluation.

The qualifications of the applicant will be assessed by an assessment committee. On the basis of the recommendation of the assessment committee, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Science will make a decision for allocating the stipend.

Two PhD Positions in Experimental Microbial Ecology

Research objectives are to better understand why cross-feeding sometimes occurs within microbial communities and how cross-feeding can promote diversity within these communities. Denitrification of nitrate to nitrogen gas is used as a model cross-feeding pathway, which has important implications for water quality, air quality, and global warming. The research projects are expected to improve our mechanistic understanding of how microbial communities assemble together.

The PhD positions will largely focus on experimental work, but may incorporate theoretical components as well. The projects will require the development of expertise in experimental microbiology, microbial ecology, and microbial evolution. Both positions will begin January 1st, 2011, but this is to some degree negotiable.

A successful applicant will have an MSc degree or equivalent in environmental or biological sciences. The applicant should have a working knowledge of microbiology, ecology, and evolution. The applicant must be able to conduct research independently and to communicate in English.

The successful applicant will investigate the physiological effects of drought (both natural and experimentally applied) on the photosynthetic apparatus of Mediterranean and Central European oak species.
The applicant must hold an earned diploma or masters degree in biology, and have a strong background in plant physiology, preferentially in tree physiology or photosynthesis research, and in plant molecular biology. * You should complete your bachelor/master’s degree in a KAUST-relevant field of study prior to the semester of enrollment.
* Current field of study must be in a KAUST-relevant area, such as Engineering, Mathematics, or the Physical, Chemical and Biological Sciences.
* There is no minimum GPA requirement for admission. However, most candidates will have an average cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale or equivalent in other international grading systems. The average GPA of admitted students is currently 3.7 on a 4.0 scale.
* KAUST requires a minimum TOEFL score of 79 on the IBT (Internet Based Test) or 6.0 on the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) before an application will be considered for admission. KAUST's university code for the TOEFL exam is 4107. Only official TOEFL or IELTS scores will be accepted. TOEFL or IELTS scores for tests administered by an educational institution for admission to that particular institution are not acceptable.
* A TOEFL or IELTS score is not required if the applicant is a native speaker of English (English is the primary language spoken in the home) or received a degree from a university in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand.
* KAUST does not require the GRE exam for admission. However, we encourage students to take the GRE general test. A high quantitative score on the GRE will enhance a student’s application. Official test results should be send directly from ETS. The KAUST university code is 4139. The average score on the GRE quantitative section was 780 for admitted students in the 2010 admission.

Melbourne International Research Scholarships

The Melbourne International Research Scholarships (MIRS) is awarded to international students wishing to undertake graduate research degree studies at the University of Melbourne. MIRSs are funded by the University with each faculty having a limited number to award.

Each year the University offers about 220 new Melbourne Research Scholarships (MRSs), of which about 100 are normally awarded to international students as MIRSs.
Benefits and conditions

Benefits provided by the MIRS include:

* a living allowance of $22,500 per annum (2010 rate)
* a Relocation Grant of $2,000 awarded to students who are moving from interstate in order to study at the University of Melbourne or $3,000 awarded to those who are moving from overseas

Postgraduate scholarship in Biochemistry

Studies on molecular level of structure, function and protein-protein interactions concerning a particular group of molecular chaperons, so called small heat shock proteins. They interact with not clarified mechanisms with other proteins in the cell and prevent aggregation. Preliminary results indicate that the interaction occurs with the terminal endings of the proteins, what we call "the terminome". The results are significant for the understanding of and the possibility to prevent diseases that are due to protein aggregation, and for plants to resist water shortage, drought and increased temperatures.

Eligibility/Entry Requirements

Basic entry requirements for PhD studies are: a degree at advanced level, courses to an extent of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 at advanced level, or corresponding proficiencies aquired in Sweden or elsewhere. Special requirements for this position: MSc in biochemistry or biomedicine or corresponding education. Good communication skills are required and also independence in reading scientific literature and writing reports. Education in bioinformatics and practical experience of protein chemical methodology is meritorious.

Basis of Assessment

Regulations for employment as a postgraduate student can be found in the Swedish Statute Book (SFS 1998:80). Only those admitted to postgraduate studies can be appointed to such a position. When appointing applicants to such a position, first and foremost their ability to benefit from postgraduate studies must be taken into consideration. Ph.D. Fellowships in Elementary Particle Physics

The International Max Planck Research School Elementary Particle Physics - Theoretical, Experimental and Cosmological Frontiers (IMPRS EPP) is a joint initiative of the Max Planck Institute of Physics (Werner Heisenberg Institute) and the particle and astroparticle physics groups of the Ludwig Maximilian University Munich and the Technical University Munich. Since April 2005 the School has been offering excellent research opportunities to highly qualified doctoral students. Research fields covered by the School from both an experimental and a theoretical perspective include high energy particle physics, astroparticle physics, and cosmology. The physics of strong interactions, quantum chromodynamics, symmetries and mechanisms for symmetry breaking, neutrino physics and neutrino astrophysics, supersymmetry, string theory, physics and technology of particle detectors and light sensors, dark matter, gamma-ray astrophysics, cosmic rays, and weak interaction physics are just a few examples of the range of topics under investigation. The students' own research is supplemented by an accompanying lecture program. Regular seminars, workshops, and other joint events serve to broaden the intellectual horizon, stimulate interaction between IMPRS members, and provide valuable background knowledge on topics beyond the students' own research project.

Note that the IMPRS EPP is a school for PhD students only. Work on a Master/Diploma Thesis is not supported. Moreover, a Master/Diploma Thesis documenting at least about 6 months of research is required to be accepted.

Erasmus Mundus WOP-P Master on Work, Organizational, and Personnel Psychology

Overview
The European Master on Work, Organizational, and Personnel Psychology (WOP-P) is a postgraduate university programme, supported by the European Commission through the Erasmus Mundus Programme.

The Master requires a university degree in Psychology. The objective is to contribute to the qualification of professionals and researchers in the discipline of Work, Organizational and Personnel Psychology emphasizing a European approach and perspective. The Master implements the main guidelines developed by the Euro-Psych model for the European Diploma of Psychology (EDP) supported by the European Federation of Psychology Association (EFPA). It also follows the Reference Model and Minimal Standards of the European Curriculum in WOP Psychology established by the European Network of Work and Organizational Psychology Professors (ENOP). Five European Universities are involved: Universitat de València (Spain) as the coordinating institution, Universitat de Barcelona (Spain), Université René Descartes Paris 5 (France), Alma Mater Studiorum-Università di Bologna (Italy), and Universidade de Coimbra (Portugal).

The duration of the Programme is two full-time years, with a total workload of 120 ECTS credits (60 per year). The languages of instruction and examination will be the languages of the countries where the universities are located (Spanish, French, Italian, and Portuguese), but some invited seminars and courses in the partner institutions may be in English.

Students will gain a broad view of the discipline thanks to the mobility requirements of the Master: The student has to develop at least 60 ECTS credits of the workload in the partner institution where he/she is registered (Home University), and at least 40 ECTS credits (1/3 of the total) in another partner institution located in a different country (Host University). Any combination of home and host universities, pertaining to different countries, is possible.

Students are awarded the double title, delivered by the WOP-P Programme

The Master on Work, Organizational, and Personnel Psychology (WOP-P) has four main objectives:

* to prepare the students as competent practitioners in Work, Organizational and Personnel Psychology at the entry level as independent (non supervised) practitioners. This preparation is inspired in the scientist-practitioner model, which assumes that good preparation as a practitioner implies the acquisition of professional and research competences
* to offer a European referent of training in WOP-P to the students of other regions of the world
* to promote mobility of European and third-country students and staff across Europe
* to contribute towards university excellence and competitiveness within the European Higher Education system.

Without prejudice to high academic standards, in order to ensure geographical diversity among students/scholars, as compulsory requirement of the Erasmus Mundus requirements, WOP-P Consortium must and shall respect the following basic criteria when selecting students/scholars for an Erasmus Mundus grant/scholarship:

SEARCA Travel Grants. To reinforce the Center’s efforts and resources in the promotion of agricultural competitiveness and natural resource management toward food security and poverty reduction in the region, SEARCA will provide Travel Grants to qualified agriculture and agriculture-related professionals and social scientists, including graduate students.

This Travel Grant will provide financial support of up to a maximum of US$1,200 to qualified applicants who will present scientific papers in international or local scientific fora.

Objectives of the Grant

The following are the objectives of the SEARCA Travel Grant:

1. To provide opportunities to qualified Southeast Asian nationals to participate and present papers in scientific conferences or fora, locally or internationally.

2. To promote the dissemination of scientific knowledge/information vital to agriculture and rural development.

3. To provide the Grantee a venue to discuss with other scientists and scholars developments in their respective disciplines.

4. To produce articles or any publication out of the Grantee’s presented paper, whenever appropriate and feasible.

Eligibility for the Grant

The applicant should:

1. Be a Southeast Asian national who is a staff member of a development-oriented institution or a graduate student of a reputable university in Southeast Asia.

2. Prepare and present a full paper that is along the thrusts of the Center and has regional relevance (poster presentations will not be considered for the grant).

3. Be endorsed by his/her immediate head/supervisor/major professor.

4. Be willing to have his/her paper published in any form of appropriate publication.

5. Whenever possible, be willing to present his/her paper in SEARCA’s Agriculture and Development Seminar Series.

6. Submit a post-travel report within 30 days after the conference, highlighting observations, learning, and recommendations.

Overview
Digital Library Learning is a two-year Master Programme for information professionals who intend to work in the complex world of digital libraries. DILL is offered in cooperation between Oslo University College (Norway), Tallinn University (Estonia), and Parma University (Italy). Students will spend at least one semester at each institution.

Learning Objectives:

* To gain knowledge of digital librarianship through studying the cutting edge of digital library research as well as real world applications and best practices.
* To develop research skills through supervised independent research projects within the digital environment, using relevant methods and analytical approaches.
* To understand the impact of digital environments on the role of information professionals in the knowledge society.

Eligibility
Dill will admit both European and so-called third-country (i.e. non-EU/EEA-EFTA) students. Scholarships are available both to students from third countries and students from the EU/EFTA-EEA area. More information about the different scholarships is found under Scholarship.

Requirements for all DILL students:

* A degree in Library and Information Science (based on no less than three years of full-time study – 180 ECTS) or equivalent qualifications, such as a degree in another relevant subject.
* Knowledge and skills of computers for information use.
* English skills. Students from non-English speaking countries must have passed:

* either IELTS (International English Language Testing System) (minimum score: 5.5 points)
* or TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) (minimum score: 550 on the paper based test, 213 on the computer based test, or 79 on the Internet based test).
* Exemptions from submitting the the English test scores may be given if the applicants fills one of the following conditions:

+ English is your mother tongue, or
+ You have completed a degree with English as the means of education (must be documented by your university)

Please note: the maximum number of Erasmus Mundus Master Courses for which students can apply is 3.

Scholarship
All applicants can apply for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship. For the year 2010-2012, there are 10 scholarships available for third country students, 8 scholarships for students from the EU/EEA-states and 2 scholarships for students from the area of Western Balkans and Turkey. The number of scholarships available for the class 2011-13 has not yet been decided.

Category A scholarships. A Category A scholarship may be awarded to third country nationals, who are not residents nor have carried out their main activity (studies, training, work) for more than a total of 12 months in an EU-EEA country. The category A scholarship amounts to a monthly allowance of 1000€ per month/12000€ per year for two years. In addition the students will receive a contribution to travel and installation costs at the beginning of each school year of 4000€, coming to a total of 8000€ for the two-year course. The tuition fees will be covered by the scholarship.

Category B scholarships. A Category B scholarship may be awarded to students from the EU-EEA area, as well as third country students who has been residing in the EU-EEA area for more than 12 months within the last five years. The scholarship amounts to 500€ per month/6000€ per year for two years, plus coverage of tuition fees.

It is not possible to apply for a scholarship without a place on DILL. Once you have been accepted as a student on Dill, the Dill consortium will apply for a scholarship on your behalf.

Definitions:

* By Third country-students is meant citizens coming from all countries other than: - The 27 EU Member States (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, The UK) - The EEA-EFTA states (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway)

Overview
This European Master in Sustainable Regional Health Systems aims to fill the gap in Health Management by approaching the theme of health system management and planning on a regional level.

This Master promotes the benchmarking of the different health system models helping to construct the comprehensive health system management and planning, including both, health care and promotion, as well as the interrelation between health and socio-economic areas. It aims to spread out the European model of health promotion and health planning, sustainability and the role of health system in social cohesion and strengthening of social capital.

At the end of the Masters Course the students will graduate with Joint Master`s degree awarded by all Consortium universities and can work as middle and upper level managers in hospitals and health services as well as in regional and national administrative bodies related to public health planning and management in diverse sectors: health insurance, health financing, strategic planning, etc.

School of Chemistry Overseas Scholarships

The School of Chemistry recognises that many well-qualified overseas applicants find it difficult to meet the cost of studying for a degree in the UK and is offering Overseas Scholarships (£3,000 – £6,000). BSc and MChem students who achieve a First Class performance in the first and second year will receive £3000 at the start of year three. MChem students who obtain a First Class performance in year three will receive another £3000 in year four. These scholarships will be credited towards tuition fees in the relevant years.

Faculty International Excellence Undergraduate Scholarships

In addition, Faculty International Excellence Undergraduate Scholarships are available, worth £2,000 per year for well-qualified overseas students. The Manchester Success Scholarship

The award: £500 a year

Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program at Yokohama National University

Overview
Yokohama National University has for many years been instrumental in providing university graduates with opportunities to further their post-graduate work.The University’s special emphasis on the promotion of international exchanges with overseas universities has been stimulated by the role of Yokohama, a major port and the second largest city in Japan, as a point of contact with other countries. Yokohama is the vibrant heart of a civilization which has received direct influence from the West and then integrated these influences into the development of present-day Japan.

The City of Yokohama has a well-developed infrastructure network. Because of its central location, Yokohama has had excellent access to theoretical and practical information available through various international agencies of the government, and Yokohama National University has been closely involved in issues of infrastructure management. Much of this experience and knowledge is applicable to the infrastructure development needs of developing countries.

The Infrastructure Management Program is formally administered by the International Graduate School of Social Sciences’ International and Business Law Department, but it is in fact jointly planned and conducted by all of YNU’s graduate schools. In working toward a Master’s Degree through the Infrastructure Management Program, students will study in areas associated with the International Graduate School of Social Sciences, the graduate schools of Education, Engineering, and Environmental and Information Sciences as well as the International Student Center.

This Program 2009-2011 is the eighth cohort under the Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program which began in April 1995. YNU welcomed 113 graduate students so far under the program from all over the world and 110 students obtained the Master’s Degree in March 2009.

Eligibility
The applicant must hold a bachelor’s degree at the time of his or her enrollment (April 1, 2010). The applicant should also possess outstanding academic ability. The deadline for applications for the 2007-2009 program is August 13, 2010.
When applying, the following documents must be submitted to the International Graduate School of Social Sciences:

* Signed checklist with completed return address labels, showing applicant’s current mailing address.
* Completed application form.
* Official transcripts showing the applicant’s academic performance in his or her undergraduate program.
* Two confidential letters of recommendation. Each letter should be sealed in one of the envelopes provided with this application form. Selection Process

Application and entry requirements
1. Interested persons should apply for admission to the International Graduate School of Social Sciences, Yokohama National University, by August 13, 2010. After screening the records of qualified candidates, 15 prospective participants will be selected for final admission to the program and will receive World Bank scholarships. Successful candidates will be notified by mid-December 2010.

In applying for admission to the program, applicants should note the following:
The Master’s Program in Infrastructure Management is oriented to training government officials with present or future management responsibility and an academic background in the field of engineering. Women are encouraged to apply. Applicants must:

* have completed undergraduate work in engineering or an 　equivalent field of study;
* be 35 years of age or under as of April 1, 2011;
* have at least 4 years of practical experience involving 　responsibility for infrastructure development; and
* be in good health (semifinalists will be required to submit a health certificate signed by their doctor.)

2. Because the entire program is carried out in English, applicants must provide evidence of a satisfactory level of English competence, either by enclosing the result of the official TOEFL/IELTS (or an equivalent English proficiency examination) or by proving that they have completed a university program conducted mainly in English. TOEFL institution code for Yokohama National University is 0410 and department code for Infrastructure Management Program is 88 (International Relations).

3. Letters of reference or recommendation from two different people must be provided to support the application. One of these must be from a person who has supervised the applicant in a work situation and the other from a professor at the university from which the applicant graduated.

4. It is preferred that successful candidates arrange for a leave of absence from their employer for the two-year period during which they are to participate in the program. This leave should assure their re-employment after completion of the program.

Scholarship
Approximately fifteen scholarships are allocated to the YNU program by the World Bank. Each scholarship provides a monthly allowance of JPY157,000 and a round-trip air ticket to Japan plus a travel allowance of USD500. The scholarship also covers tuition fees, the entrance examination fee and the admission fee.

Citizens of low and middle income World Bank member countries are eligible for the scholarships. Applicants must be age 35 or under as of April 1, 2011. Applicants must have at least four years of practical experience involving responsibility for infrastructure development and must also intend to pursue a career in the field of development.

Master`s Scholarships for Public Policy and Good Governance (PPGG) at DAAD

Overview
This programme is designed to academically qualify future leaders in politics, law, economics and administration according to the principles of Good Governance and to prepare them in a praxis-oriented course for their professional life. The programme offers very good graduates with a first university degree the chance to obtain a Master’s degree in disciplines that are of special relevance for the social, political and economic development of their home country. With the knowledge and experience acquired in Germany the scholarship holders should later contribute to the establishment of democratically oriented economic and social systems aimed at overcoming social tensions. In addition, the training at German institutions of higher education should especially qualify the scholarship holders as partners in political and economic cooperation with Germany. With this programme, DAAD intends to contribute to the support of Good Governance and civil society structures in selected partner countries and regions.

Who can apply?
The scholarship scheme is open to candidates from Africa, Latin America, South Asia, Southeast Asia as well as from countries in the Middle East (see attached list of countries).

Target group
Very well qualified graduates with a first university degree (Bachelor or equivalent) who in the future want to actively contribute to the social and economic development of their home countries. The scholarships are offered both for young graduates without professional experience and for mid-career professionals.

What is fundable?
The scholarships are (generally) for two-year Master courses at a German institution of higher education. The successful candidates will study on one of the selected Master courses listed below. The courses have an international orientation and are taught in German and/or English.
The scholarship holders will study in groups and be offered special tutoring at their host institutions. Furthermore, there is the possibility of networking events for participants in different courses and their attendance at tailor-made summer-schools.
Before taking up their Master studies the scholarship holders will be placed on German courses in Germany for normally 6 months (this also applies to scholarship holders in Master courses taught in English). DAAD pays a monthly scholarship rate of currently 750 EUR. The scholarship also includes contributions to health insurance in Germany. In addition, DAAD grants an appropriate travel allowance as well as a study and research subsidy and in applicable cases rent subsidies and / or family allowances.

Selection
In addition to the study results achieved so far, the main criterion for selection is a convincing description of the subject-related and personal motivation for the study project in Germany and the expected benefit after the return to the home country. For Master courses taught in German or in German and English, good knowledge of German (ideally at completed A 2 level at the time of application) is an advantage for being able to pass the German language test required for admission to the Master programme at the end of the six-month preparatory German course. For courses taught in English, proof of good knowledge of English (generally a minimum of 550 TOEFL scores or equivalent) is required.
The university degree should have been obtained during the six years before the application for the scholarship. Applicants cannot be considered if they have been in Germany for more than one year at the time of application. All Master courses have further additional requirements that must be fulfilled by the applicants at any case.

* Motivation Letter containing a precise description of the applicant’s academic / professional and personal reasons for wishing to participate in the programme;
* Full Curriculum Vitae including information about precise field of study and, if applicable, description of job experience;
* Recent language certificates giving evidence of your level of proficiency in English (TOEFL, IELTS) and if applicable in German. Please make sure to register in time for the respective tests. Fees for obtaining such certificates are considered as a personal career investment and will not be reimbursed. Two letters of recommendation by university professors and/or current or former employers;
* Officially authenticated copies of all certificates.

The Emile Boutmy Prancis 2010-2011

Sciences Po created the Emile Boutmy scholarship after the founder of Sciences Po (1871) in order to attract the very best international students from outside of the European Union. The Emile Boutmy Scholarship is awarded to top students whose profiles match the admissions priorities of Sciences Po and individual course requirements.

Eligibility requirements
Students from outside of the European Union who have been offered a place to study at undergraduate or Masters level are eligible.

This scholarship is awarded to students with excellent academic credentials and whose profile matches that of their chosen course. Students’ financial situations are also taken into account when assessing their applications.

Undergraduate programme: Amount and length of the scholarship

The Emile Boutmy programme can take several different forms for students on the undergraduate programme. The length of the scholarship is always dependent on scholarship recipients’ academic results; they must be ranked within the top half of students within their year group.

1. A full tuition grant of 8900€ per year for the first two years of the undergraduate programme, in addition to a grant to cover part of the cost of living of €5000 per year.

Five exceptional Scholarships will be awarded for the 2010 intake.

Scholarship recipients will forfeit their right to the living costs grant if their academic results are not with the top 50% of students within their year group at the end of the first year *.

1. A grant of €8000 per year to cover tuition fees (equivalent to an exemption of 85% of eligible fees) for the three years of the undergraduate programme.

If the academic results of scholarship recipients are not within the upper half of students within their year group at the end of the second semester of the first year, they will receive a warning notifying them that they must improve their results by the end of the first semester of the second year. If by this time, the students’ results have not improved and they are not in the upper half of students, they will forfeit their right to the scholarship as from the second semester of the second year.*

If scholarship recipients academic results’ place them within the top 10% of students in their year group at the end of their first year of students**, they will be eligible for a grant to cover living costs of €5000 for their second year of students; this will be in addition to the grant covering tuition fees.

2. A grant of €4000 per year to cover tuition fees (equivalent to an exemption of 45% of fees) for the three years of the undergraduate programme.

If the scholarship recipients’ academic results are not within the upper half of their year group at the end of the second semester of the first year, they will receive a warning notifying them that they must improve their results by the end of the first semester of the second year. If the student’s results have not improved by then and do not place him/her in the upper half of students, they will forfeit their right to the scholarship as from the second semester of the second year.*

If the scholarship recipient is within the top 10% of his year group at the end of the first year**, he/she is eligible for a tuition fees grant of €6000 per year (equivalent to an exemption of approximately 70% of tuition fees) as well as for a grant of €5000 to cover living costs for the second year of study. This comes in addition to the tuition fees grant. Only students having requested this grant will be considered.

During the year abroad (third year of the undergraduate programme):

Scholarship recipients who are among the top 50% of students in their year group at the end of their second year will retain their tuition fee grant during their year abroad.

For those students awarded a grant to cover living costs in their second year, a grant to cover the costs of the stay abroad will be provided if deemed necessary and if the destination justifies.

* For example, in 2007-2009, the average mark required was 13.5/20.

The Geophysics Laboratory carries out world leading research in the monitoring and interpretation of geophysical processes using space geodetic and gravity measurements, conducts investigations in many locations around the world, including Greenland and Antarctica and has an excellent publication track record.

The recent addition of Norman Teferle to the Geophysics Laboratory underpinned its expertise in the areas of GPS processing and time series analysis, broadening the overall scientific expertise available within the team. Both junior researchers will be working as part of the Geophysics Laboratory team and will be supervised by two professors, depending on their research topic.

Mission:

* Carry out research and prepare a doctoral thesis in the area of geodesy

Heinrich Boll Stiftung promote those studying and graduating who have a positive attitude towards the goals of the Green project, share the fundamental ideals of the Heinrich Böll Foundation – democracy, ecology, solidarity and non-violence – and who take an active socio-political role.

Eligibility & Guiding Principles
In accordance with the guidelines of the German Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) as well as the Foreign Office (AA), scholarships are awarded by the Scholarship Department to German and foreign students.

Students
The following requirements apply to German citizens, EU citizens and students who have gained their university entrance qualifications from a German school:

1. The maintenance scholarships which are awarded to German citizens, EU citizens and students who have gained their university entrance qualifications from a German school will be calculated on the same basis as BAföG, depending on your parent’s income and/or your own income and personal assets. Irrespective of this, an independent book grant of 80 € per month will be awarded to all successful applicants.

2. You must be enrolled at a state-recognized university or college (e.g. Fachhochschule) in Germany at the time the scholarship payments begin. The foundation also grants scholarships for Master degree courses in other EU countries.
3. Earliest application date: if you intend to enrol for a Bachelor or Masters degree, for a Diploma, Magister or State Examination, you can apply for a scholarship before your studies begin, but the earliest date for receiving payment will be the beginning of the first semester. We advise you to make your application in time for the start of your studies.
4. Latest application date: within the prescribed maximum period of study you should still have at least four semesters before your final examinations, so that the foundation can support you for at least three semesters.

The following requirements apply to foreign applicants (except EU citizens) who wish to study in Germany:

1. You must be enrolled at a state-recognized university or college (e.g. Fachhochschule) in Germany at the time the scholarship payments begin.
2. You should provide proof that you have already graduated with an initial professional qualification. This programme mainly supports students aiming for a Masters degree.
3. You need a good knowledge of German, and we kindly ask you to provide proof of your proficiency. Please note that the selection workshop (interviews, group discussions) will normally be in German. Exceptions (interview in English) are, however, possible.
4. Unfortunately, the current guidelines specify that we can not support foreign scholarship holders for stays abroad in third countries for more than four weeks.

Doctoral Studies (PhD)
The following requirements apply to German applicants, applicants from other EU countries and PhD-students who have gained their university entrance qualifications from a German school:

1. Approval: applicants for a PhD-scholarship must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent from an officially accredited institution of higher education in Germany or abroad. Furthermore, they must have been accepted as a doctoral student by an institution of higher education in Germany or in another EU country.
2. Duration of funding: normally, the scholarship will be awarded for the period of two years, plus a maximum extension of two half years, if applicable.

The following requirements apply to PhD-students from outside the EU:

1. Approval: applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent and must have been accepted as a doctoral student by a German institution of higher education.

The Nippon Foundation Nikkei Scholarship provide an opportunity to study in Japan for young Japanese descents having definite plans and dreams of promoting understanding between the country of resident and Japan and contributing to the development of the country of resident and local communities.

Qualification Requirements

1. Applicants must be Japanese descents (regardless of nationality, educational background or previous visits to Japan).
2. Applicants must be 18 to 35 years old in principle.
3. Applicants must be recommended by overseas Japanese descent organizations.
4. Applicants must have a dream of acquiring technical knowledge and, after returning home, playing active roles in the countries of resident and local communities.

It is desirable that the applicant is proficient enough in Japanese that he/she has no trouble listening to lectures at the school or leading daily life in Japan. If applicants wish to improve their Japanese, they will be able to take Japanese lessons for 6 months to one year.

The establishment of this Fellowship Programme is intended to attract to NTU and NUS the best and most talented doctoral students from Singapore, the region, and beyond and educate them to be future leaders in science and technology for Singapore and beyond. The Fellowship will provide them with the opportunity to be involved in the strategic research programmes at the SMART Centre and provide them with the opportunity to be co-advised by an MIT faculty member. The student may spend up to six months doing research at MIT.
The SMA Graduate Fellowship at SMART provides:

* up to four years of full tuition fees at the student’s home university;
* a monthly stipend of S$3,200;
* a scholarly allowance of up to S$12,000 to help cover the expenses associated with a six month researchresidency at MIT;
* and co-supervision by an MIT and NTU/NUS faculty.
* There is no bond associated with this fellowship.

In order to be eligible for an SMA Graduate Fellowship, a student must:

have graduated with an undergraduate degree with first class or second-upper (or equivalent);
be an incoming new PhD student not currently matriculated;

Newcastle University is delighted to announce over 100 new Newcastle University International Postgraduate Scholarship (NUIPS) awards. These are available for international students starting their studies in September 2010, in the 2010-11 academic year. Each scholarship will have a value of £1,500 per year, payable towards tuition fees in the first instance. In very exceptional circumstances, the value of the NUIPS may be increased to £3,000 per year at the discretion of the International Scholarships Committee.

Eligibility
You could be eligible to apply for a NUIPS award if:
• you have been offered a place on any postgraduate degree programme
• you have been assessed as international/overseas for fees purposes, and are wholly or partially self-financing
• you intend to register to start your studies during the 2010-11 academic year.
• applications for a NUIPS award cannot be made for a course that has already been started by a student.

Journalists across the globe can apply for an International Media Studies Master`s Program in Bonn, Germany. Full scholarships will be awarded to ten applicants from Africa, Asia, Latin America or Eastern Europe. The program is sponsored by German media group Deutsche Welle, the University of Bonn and other organizations.

The four-semester, full-time program combines theory with training in practical journalism skills, and covers such topics as media and development, media economics, and communication science. The program ends with a master`s thesis and colloquium. Successful graduates receive a Master of Arts (M.A.).

Job description:

The research project for this position will take place in the research group of Professor Winnie Eskild, The Gene Program, Department of Molecular Biosciences, but the project is in collaboration with School of Pharmacy, and visits at other laboratories may be possible as a part of the project.
The fellow will be working with a project entitled “Metabolic syndrome and the role of NCU-G1 in skeletal muscle” and be part of the collaborative research group ”Muscle Research Group at MatNat faculty (MURES)” which is an emerging research initiative in Life Science at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. The focus of the MURES group is to study skeletal muscle molecular mechanisms related to insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Applicants may submit a project proposal for the qualifying work during the program. The project proposal should include research topic, main issues, as well as choice of theory and method.

Requirements:

The purpose of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree.
